Refining the Art of Resilience for Performing Artists

Your body is your instrument. We provide specialized 1-on-1 clinical care that understands the extreme physical demands of the stage. Led by a DPT who danced herself and lives with hypermobility, we bridge the gap between high-level performance and sustainable healing.

What We Treat

Performing artists face demands most clinicians don't understand — and injuries that require more than standard orthopedic care. We treat the full spectrum of dance and performance-related conditions with a clinical model built around your art form.

Musicians: if your pain is instrument-related — bow arm, embouchure, repetitive strain, or playing posture — we treat that too. Bring your instrument if it's portable.

Tendonitis, stress reactions, and repetitive strain don't resolve with rest alone. We identify the load and movement pattern driving the problem — and fix that.

Overuse Injuries

Standard PT wasn't built for hypermobile bodies. We specialize in hEDS, HSD, and the full spectrum — paced load building, nervous system regulation, and stability from the inside out.

Hypermobility & EDS
Labral Tears & Impingement

Hip and shoulder labral issues are common in dancers and often manageable without surgery. We address the movement patterns that created the problem, not just the pain.

From ankle impingement to pointe-related foot injuries, we treat the mechanics behind the restriction — restoring pain-free demi-plié, relevé, and full range.

Ankle & Foot Pain

If you've been through the system and nothing has held, you're not broken — you're undertreated. We treat chronic pain through root cause, not symptom management.

Chronic Pain

Bone stress injuries require more than time off. We guide safe return-to-performance with load management and strength work that prevents recurrence.

Stress Fractures

Pre-Pointe Readiness Assessment

Transitioning to pointe is one of the most significant physical milestones in a young dancer's training. Done too early or without proper preparation, it creates injuries that can follow a dancer for years.

What We Assess

Functional ankle stability and range of motion, structural foot maturity, single-leg core control, hip strength and alignment, and the specific mobility requirements for safe pointe work.

What You Leave With

A detailed written report, a targeted strengthening plan to close any gaps, and honest guidance on readiness timeline — so you and your teacher can move forward with confidence.

What a session looks like

Every dancer starts with a 55-minute evaluation — we look at how you move on and off the floor, not just where it hurts. Treatment is built around your performance schedule, not against it.

Sessions include:

  • Movement and biomechanical analysis specific to your art form

  • Manual therapy and hands-on treatment

  • Neuromuscular strengthening tailored to dance demands

  • Dry needling when appropriate

  • Return-to-performance planning with realistic timelines

  • Home exercise plans you can integrate into your training

We don't tell dancers to stop dancing. We figure out how to keep you moving while your body heals.

MEET YOUR DOCTOR

Harnessing the Wisdom of Lived Experience

A BFA in Dance from Belhaven University. A career-ending injury. A medical system that didn't understand hypermobility or what a dancer's body actually needs.

That experience is the foundation of every clinical decision made at Flourish. When you describe a tendu or a relevé, you won't have to translate. When you say you can't afford to stop performing, that's a real constraint — not something to argue with.
